The Christmas season is a tough time of year for people without jobs. Money’s tight, and holiday events and gift buying makes it even tighter. Sports are often an outlet for those in bad situations, but when you can’t afford tickets to a match, it’s harder to find ways to enjoy that outlet. Scottish club Celtic recognizes these trials, and in order to try to make things at least a little better, they’ve arranged a Christmas gift for fans that have fallen on hard times.
Celtic give free tickets to unemployed fans as Christmas gift
Celtic are offering unemployed fans free tickets to their next home league match, against Ross County on Dec. 27. The club doesn’t want to see anyone miss out on the chance to watch their favorite team at Celtic Park, no matter their financial circumstances. It’s a touching gesture, especially alongside the Celtic Foundation’s work on their Christmas Appeal project to help make the holidays a little easier for in-need families every year.
Celtic are six points clear of second-place Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership table. They’re in the middle of a seven-match winning streak in the league, a run that started with the same Ross County team that Celtic will be playing in the match these tickets are for. If Celtic can extend that run and their lead in the league, that would make and already special Christmas gift for their fans even more of something to cherish.
Tickets are being distributed at Celtic Park on a first-come, first-serve basis for those who need them.
