The man brought on in a panic to guide Mexico through their intercontinental playoff will get an entire cycle at the helm of El Tri. On Wednesday, Miguel Herrera told reporters that he'd signed a new deal with Mexico and would be manager through the 2018 World Cup.
Miguel Herrera will lead Mexico through 2018 World Cup

This wasn’t surprising news. Herrera’s contract extension wasn’t announced before this, but he was always expected to sign one and manage El Tri through the entire World Cup cycle.
Since losing to the Netherlands in the World Cup round of 16, Herrera has dropped some of his most veteran players and taken the chance to get a look at a lot of young and fringe talents. He'll have a couple of more opportunities to do this before the Gold Cup, which takes place this summer. Mexico are also competing in the 2015 Copa America, but sent Olympic coach Luis Fernando Tena to that tournament last time around, and will probably send their U-23 manager, Raúl Gutiérrez.
Mexico will be taking the next Copa America very seriously, as it's the first that all CONCACAF teams will have a chance to qualify for, and it takes place in the United States. World Cup qualifying will also be taking place around that tournament.
