Wigan warns fans over hateful language as Dave Whelan continues to use slurs

Don’t be a jerk applies to everyone at Wigan, except their manager and owner.

Wigan Athletic are taking a stand against hateful language from their supporters.

Wigan Athletic are reminding supporters that it is illegal to swear or use racist, homophobic or sexist language.

The club has a zero tolerance on this and any supporter found to be using inappropriate language runs the risk of being ejected from the match, with further sanctions being available depending on the severity of the case.

That is good! Being a jerk and saying terrible things should not be condoned.

Hopefully this is a club-wide policy so let’s check in on what Wigan owner Dave Whelan has had to say before.

Jewish people chase money more than everybody else.

And about Chinese people.

When I was growing up we used to call the Chinese ‘chingalings’. We weren’t being disrespected [sic]. We used to say: ‘We’re going to eat in chingalings.’

Now let’s turn to what Wigan manager Malky Mackay was found to have texted when managing Cardiff.

Go on, fat Phil. Nothing like a Jew that sees money slipping through his fingers.

And another text when they signed a Korean player.

Fkn chinkys. Fk it. There’s enough dogs in Cardiff for us all to go around.

Finally, his thoughts on a potential transfer list.

Not many white faces amongst that lot but worth considering.

So yeah, Wigan, about that zero tolerance crap...
