Serie A strugglers Cesena sack coach Pierpaolo Bisoli

Serie A strugglers Cesena have today announced the sacking of their coach Pierpaolo Bisoli. The club's 3-2 defeat to Atalanta on the weekend left them sitting second from bottom in the table, three points adrift of safety. It brings to a close an enormously successful second stint in charge of the Emilian club for Bisoli, who led them to promotion from the second tier for a second time last season.

Cesena's first promotion under Bisoli came in 2010, though he left to take charge of Cagliari at the end of that season. He was swiftly sacked by the Sardinians, only to return to Cesena in Serie B in 2012, via an ill-fated few months at their Emilian neighbours Bologna.

As per usual, it’s hard to see how Cesena plan on turning their fortunes around by changing their coach. It’s pretty clear that Bisoli new the club inside out, and sacking him will only cause further disruption in the short term. They’ve got one of the weakest squads in the division on paper, and with them having won only once in their first 14 games, trying to keep them afloat is an unenviable task.
