Liverpool vs. Basel: Lineups

Rickie Lambert leads the line in Liverpool’s crucial final Champions League group stage game.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has named both Rickie Lambert and Steven Gerrard in his starting lineup for the Reds' crunch Champions League match at home to Basel. Gerrard looks likely to be starting in a supporting midfield role just off Lambert, as he did in Liverpool's last European game against Ludogorets.

Meanwhile, Lucas and Joe Allen will anchor the midfield, while Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling marshal the flanks.

As for Basel, coach Paulo Sousa has continued his innovating, seemingly once again opting for three central defenders. Let’s hope for the Swiss side’s sake that their experiment with the system goes rather better than Brendan Rodgers’ own at Anfield last season.

Liverpool starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Simon Mignolet; José Enrique, Martin Škrtel, Dejan Lovren, Glen Johnson; Lucas, Joe Allen; Raheem Sterling, Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson; Rickie Lambert.

Basel starting lineup (3-4-3): Tomáš Vaclík; Marek Suchý, Granit Xhaka, Fabian Schär; Behrang Safari, Mohamed Elneny, Luca Zuffi, Fabian Frei; Shkelzen Gashi, Marco Streller, Derlis González
