Joe Kinnear resigns as Newcastle United’s Director of Football

In yet more bizarre goings-on at St. James’ Park, Joe Kinnear has resigned as Director of Football at Newcastle United.

Joe Kinnear has resigned as Director of Football at Newcastle United, the club have confirmed.

The move comes just days after a disappointing transfer window for the club ended, with a very brief statement being posted on the club’s official website.

Confirming Kinnear’s resignation from Newcastle, the statement said:

Newcastle United can confirm that Joe Kinnear has this evening resigned from his position as Director of Football with immediate effect.

The Club will be making no further comment.

Kinnear previously managed Newcastle in 2008 before resigning due to health issues, continuing a chain of events which ultimately resulted in the club’s relegation. He then rejoined the club as a Director of Football in 2013, a move which was initially mocked after a car-crash interview on British radio. With the club claiming they will make no further comment, it remains to be seen if there will be any knock-on effects of this story, or what could’ve caused it.
