Newcastle continued their upturn in form by gaining an impressive win at Hull City, but the game will be marred by Alan Pardew appearing to headbutt David Meyler in a touchline brawl.

Newcastle United gained a fine win at Hull City, with Moussa Sissoko bagging a brace, although the match may be more remembered for Alan Pardew incredibly seeming to headbutt David Meyler in an incident on the touchline.

Moussa Sissoko opened the scoring before Loïc Remy added a second. Curtis Davies pulled one back for the hosts but Sissoko doubled his tally to put the game beyond Steve Bruce's men before Vurnon Anita added a fourth in injury time.
The game got off to a fairly explosive start, but it was Sissoko who surprisingly opened the scoring for the visitors just after Tim Krul had been forced to make a fine save from Shane Long. Newcastle burst up the pitch and Mathieu Debuchy put in a fine centre for Sissoko to sweep home.
Hull fought back, but managed to spurn three golden chances to equalise. First, Nikica Jelavić couldn't get enough power on a decent headed opportunity, before the ex-Rangers man then almost scored from a free-kick that clipped the crossbar. The third was easily the best, however, with Long doing brilliantly to trick his way past his marker down the left wing before curling in a magnificent cross to the back post, but Ahmed Elmohamady missed an open goal with the simplest of headers.
The Tigers were then punished for their wastefulness as Newcastle doubled their advantage courtesy of a horrendous error from Maynor Figueroa , who played a backpass much too short to put Remy through on goal. Allan McGregor flew out of goal in an attempt to intercept the loose ball, but Remy got their first and coolly rounded the Scot to make it 2-0 before half-time.

Hull got themselves right back into the game immediately after kick-off, winning a free-kick from which Tom Huddlestone found Curtis Davies, who took advantage of Krul coming off his line to head home and pull a goal back for the hosts.
Yet Newcastle didn't take long to restore their lead, courtesy of another mistake from Hull as a free-kick went straight to the Magpies, allowing an instant counter. Yoan Gouffran saw his shot saved, but Sissoko fired home the rebound to make it 3-1.
McGregor then had to make a magnificent save to keep out Remy’s ferocious effort, but there was to be a huge moment of controversy to follow. Meyler seemingly accidentally stumbled into Pardew following a challenge by the touchline, only for the Newcastle boss to square up to the Irishman and appear to headbutt him afterwards. Pardew was duly sent to the stands, presumably awaiting a potentially lengthy ban for his trouble.
Hull came within inches of scoring late on as they had a corner cleared off the line, but it was Newcastle who would get a late goal. Anita came up with his first in the Premier League, turning one in to an empty net from close range after McGregor could not quite keep a late effort out.
That wrapped up a win for Newcastle which followed a fine display, although they will have to suffer the fallout of the incident with Pardew on Meyler in the aftermath.
