Alan Pardew headbutts David Meyer

What’s the dumbest thing a manager can do?

Headbutting is bad. A manager headbutting a player is worse.

Alan Pardew fell into the latter category on Saturday.

The Newcastle manager got into it with David Meyer -- presumably shouting insults at each other, although that is just a guess -- and when Meyer took it to another level by shoving Pardew, the manager took it to another super level by headbutting the Hull City player back. To use technical terms, that is what we call "really, really, really stupid."

Is that covered in the coaching badges classes? Either how to headbutt or not to headbutt? It should be because apparently working under the assumption that no manager is dumb enough to headbutt an opposing player isn’t a very good one.

The only question now is how many matches Pardew will be suspended for. Seeing as violent conduct is an automatic three-match suspension for a player, five matches seems like a good minimum for a manager headbutting an opposing player, plus maybe tack on an extra five matches for remarkable stupidity.
