The match was over just minutes after it started. David Alaba scored three minutes in to put Bayern in front and it was 4-0 before the half-hour mark. At no point did Schalke look like they even belonged on the same field and their own goal actually came courtesy of Rafinha, who put the ball in his own net.
Alaba's goal came with a fair bit of fortune as his free kick took a deflection, sending Ralf Fahrmann the wrong way, but there was no luck 12 minutes later when Robben made it 2-0. Mario Mandzukic played a clever little ball in for Robben, leaving the Dutchman in alone on goal and he chipped Fahrmann to double the home side's lead. It wasn't much longer before Alaba crossed for Mandzukic to head home and Robben added one more to make it 4-0 after a mere 28 minutes.
Schalke had no idea what to do against Bayern. They were shellshocked and their inability to string together passes quickly turned into a disinterest in tracking back. Bayern didn’t push too hard once they went up for goals, content to knock the ball around and kill time as their fans cheered them on to another win.
Rafhina gifted Schalke their lone goal after the hour-mark, but Robben got that one back in the 77th minute from the penalty spot. Kyriakos Papadopoulos hauled down Mandzukic in the box to earn a red card and Robben converted the spot kick to put a ribbon on the hat trick and a dominating three points.
