Getafe accounced on Monday they have sacked head coach Luis Garcia after the club's twelfth game without a win over the weekend. The Azulones are currently in 15th place, just one point clear of the drop zone, after a 2-0 loss against last-place Real Betis on Saturday.

That loss was the last straw for Garcia, who exits after two-and-a-half years in charge of Getafe. Club president Angel Torres confirmed the news at a press conference, announcing both Garcia’s departure and the arrival of former Getafe player Cosmin Contra as the team’s new manager.
Contra has been in charge of Romanian club Petrolul Ploiești since 2012 and will now be tasked with keeping Getafe from falling out of La Liga entirely.
The 38-year-old Contra played for the Azulones from 2005 to 2010, making 84 appearances and scoring three goals. He coached Getafe III for one season in 2011/12 before taking over at Spanish second division side Fuenlabra. After less than a season in charge he asked to be released from his contract so he could return to Romania to coach Petrolul Ploiești.
Contra begins his Getafe coaching career with a home match agains Granada on March 14th.
