Aston Villa vs. Norwich City: Final score 4-1, Benteke brace leads Villains to rare home win

Aston Villa won at home? Aston Villa won at home!

Ben Hoskins

For just the second time since November 9, Aston Villa won at home. Villa Park had been a house of horrors for the home side, but that certainly wasn't the case on Sunday. The Villains were scintillating and the scoreboard reflected it -- 4-1 over Norwich.

Things actually started terribly for Villa as Wesley Hoolahan scored after just three minutes and it looked like they were bound for more Villa Park misery. They weren’t.

That's because Christian Benteke got involved and in the 25th minute ... well, just watch.

Two minutes later, Benteke scored again. This time he rose to meet a corner and headed home to put Villa in front.

Aston Villa continued to hammer Norwich and in the 37th minute, they added to their lead. Andi Weimann played a gorgeous pass in for Leandro Bacuna, who cut in before slotting the ball into the corner. Then, just for good measure, Sebastien Bassong put the ball in his own net and the Villains led 4-1.

The Canaries may have scored early, but that was their only bright spot in the match. They were badly outclassed the rest of the way, faltering under the pressure from the Villa midfield and failing to mark inside their own box. Benteke may have scored a wonder goal and Bassong may have handed the Villains another, but this wasn’t a fluke. The scoreboard accurately reflect the gulf between the two teams on this day and Villa had a deserved, if rare, three points at home.
