Parma vs. Genoa: Final score 1-1; Parma unable to overcome solid Genoa side

It’s 17 in a row unbeaten for Parma, yet the hosts failed to impress much against a solid Genoa side.

At the Tardini on Sunday, both coaches surprised by leaving important players on the bench. Roberto Donadoni opted for Ezequiel Schelotto instead of Jonathan Biabiany, while Gian Pietro Gasperini left Alberto Gilardino on the bench and gave Emanuele Calaio a chance up front

Pairing Calaio with Moussa Konate worked well, as Calaio's quick passes fit well with the latter's mobility on the pitch. It was Konate's through ball that set up Isaac Cofie's opening goal in the 15th minute. Cofie, somewhat surprisingly, beat Gabriel Paletta to send a powerful shot into the lower right corner of Antonio Mirante's goal.

The hosts responded by increasing the pressure, but Genoa sat back, giving Parma few chances. But in the 31st minute, Antonio Conte's free kick took a fortunate deflection off Marco Parolo. The ball fell to Schelotto, who smashed into the far corner from about 15 yards out.

In the second half, both teams lacked decent opportunities. The grifone were happy to soak up Parma’s pressure, with the hosts having the majority of the possession and Genoa simply looking for the opportunity to make a quick break.

Amauri came closest to changing the scoreline in the 84th when he got his head on the end of a cross from Raffaele Palladino. The ball seemed destined to go in, but a fantastic save from Mattia Perin allowed Genoa to walk away with a point.
