Bayern Munich win 24th Bundesliga title in record time

After setting the record last season by clinching the league title with six games to spare, Bayern have done one better this season and claimed the title with seven games left.

Pep Guardiola has completed the first required task for any Bayern Munich manager: winning the Bundesliga title. Thanks to their 3-1 victory over Hertha Berlin on Tuesday, Bayern will lift the league trophy for the 24th time in club history. The title Guardiola's first in Germany and his fourth as a top flight league manager.

Bayern entered Wednesday’s match needing only to win to claim their second straight title, and they did just that against Hertha Berlin. Toni Kroos scored early and Mario Gotze added a goal of his own so that when Hertha Berlin tallied from the penalty spot in the second half, it wasn’t enough to overcome Bayern’s first half dominance. Then, just for fun, Franck Ribery scored on a gorgeous chip from a ridiculous angle to put a cherry on top of Bayern’s title winning sundae.

Bayern earned their 19th-straight league win in the process, pushing the club’s unbeaten run to 52 games, both of which are Bundesliga records. Bayern have clinched the Bundesliga away from home eight straight times.

With the title wrapped up, Bayern can now focus on the defending their Champions League title. Their first order of business will be the first leg of their semifinal tie against Manchester United, scheduled for Tuesday, May 1, at Old Trafford in Manchester.
