That’s a new title for Ronaldo, who scored his 49th career goal to break a tie with Pauleta for the top spot on Portugal’s scoring chart.
A few facts about Ronaldo on this record setting day:
- He earned his first cap in 2003
- He scored his first international goal at Euro 2004. He scored another goal in the semifinals too.
- He captained Portugal for the first time the day after his 22nd birthday.
- He scored eight goals in Euro 2008 qualifying.
- He only scored one goal at the 2010 World Cup, but was still Man of the Match three times.
- He scored seven goals in Euro 2012 qualifying, including two goals in the playoff to put Portugal in the tournament.
- He tied for the Euro 2012 lead with three goals.
