Manchester City vs. Wigan Athletic: Preview and TV schedule

Manchester City should exact revenge for last season’s FA Cup final defeat on Sunday, as they welcome Wigan Athletic in the quarterfinals.

Alex Livesey

One of the biggest upsets of last season was Wigan Athletic's FA Cup Final win over Manchester City, shortly before their Premier League relegation was confirmed and manager Roberto Martínez upped sticks for Everton. Since then, they've ridden a rocky road. Martínez's replacement Owen Coyle was sacked and replaced by Uwe Rösler in December. Since then, though, the Latics have been on the up, and are now in a Championship playoff spot with a game in hand.

However, City are of course still huge favourites for Sunday's quarterfinal clash, with Manuel Pellegrini's side looking to sweep up a second trophy after picking up the Capital One Cup last week. With Arsenal and Everton the only other great powerhouses remaining, the Citizens aren't just favourites to win this tie, but win the whole thing. They've already broken Wigan hearts so far this season, dumping the Latics out of the League Cup back in September with a 5-0 win. Ouch.

For this match, City are still without Stevan Jovetić and Matija Nastasić, but it's Wigan who are dogged with the biggest selection problems. Ben Watson, Scott Carson, Gary Caldwell and Shaun Maloney are all first-teamers, and all are still out injured. Martyn Waghorn, Ryan Tunnicliffe and Rob Kiernan are all cup-tied. However, top scorer and Manchester United loanee Nick Powell could return from his hamstring problem to play, while Callum McManaman may shake off an ankle injury in time to take Waghorn's place on the right of the attack.

Manchester City injuries and suspensions

Out: Stevan Jovetić (hamstring), Matija Nastasić (knee). In doubt: None.

Wigan Athletic injuries and suspensions

Out: Ben Watson (leg), Scott Carson (thigh), Gary Caldwell (calf), Shaun Maloney (hip), Martyn Waghorn (cup-tied), Ryan Tunnicliffe (cup-tied), Rob Kiernan (cup-tied). In doubt: Callum McManaman (ankle), Nick Powell (hamstring).
