Aaron Hunt convinces ref to take back penalty call

Aaron Hunt is too good for your ill-awarded penalties.

Alex Grimm

Aaron Hunt went to ground, the referee pointed to the spot and Werder Bremen had a penalty.

Until they didn’t.

Hunt wasn’t touched when he went down, either because he dove or just tripped and after the referee awarded the penalty, he went to the official and corrected him. The referee took back his penalty call and Nurnberg put the ball back in play as if the penalty call had never happened.

Sportsmanship! Fair play! Weird!

The conversation (which barely happened because it looked like one word and the shake of a head) went like this:

Hunt: He never touched me, it’s not a penalty.

Referee: But I pointed.

Hunt: I know, but it’s the wrong call.

Referee: Show some respect for the point.

Hunt: I am, but you still got it wrong.

Referee: So you don’t want the penalty?

Hunt: No.

Referee: You’re kidding me.

Hunt: I’m not, please give them the ball.

Referee: Isn’t “no takebacks” in the Laws of the Game?

Hunt: No, you’re making that up.

Referee: Give me a hundred and I can uphold the penalty.

Hunt: No.

Referee: You’re a punk.

And Werder won 2-0 anyway. Victory is Hunt’s.
