Bayern weren’t able to generate too many chances, even though they had lots of the ball. Thomas Müller, who started up top instead of a true striker, didn’t look great in his role early on. He missed a golden chance off a Franck Ribery cross in the 11th minute and was regularly outmuscled by United’s defenders.

The closest Bayern came to scoring was on a shot from outside of the box, from Arjen Robben. He let go of a left-footed drive from 20 yards in the 31st minute that looked destined for the back of the net, but David De Gea came up with an excellent save at his far post.

    Vidic stuns everyone

United have looked okay on the counter attack and have defended pretty well, but never looked like actually taking the lead. Bayern have set up shop in the United half all match and have controlled the game in every way, though they haven’t been particularly good in front of goal. Thomas Müller, who started up top, has been particularly poor.

Oh, and if United manage to hang on to this result? Well, that would set up an absolutely must-watch second leg at the Allianz Arena. If Bayern can’t pick up an away goal, United might actually have a shot at the upset.

De Gea makes a monster save

United have been entirely limited to counters thus far while Bayern have camped in their half. This one doesn’t look like staying scoreless.
