USA vs. Mexico: Time, TV schedule and how to watch online

It’s a domestic-only, non-FIFA date friendly, but it’s still USA and Mexico. It’ll get nasty.

Stephen Dunn

With Miguel Herrera and Jurgen Klinsmann feeling like their fringe players could use a game together and another look before 30-man World Cup rosters are decided, the United States and Mexico have scheduled a friendly match for Wednesday that will include decent chunks of the teams they will take to Brazil in the future. Both the USA and El Tri could gain plenty of information from this match, though their coaches will be looking for much different things.

Despite being a non-FIFA date friendly with just North American-based players, this match is almost certain to be heated given the layer of controversy added by Puebla FC. The Liga MX club refused to release Americans DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco Fiscal for the game, even though other Liga MX clubs released Mexican national team players for this match.

For the United States, all eyes will be on the right back position. Michael Parkhurst -- who plays in the center of defense for Columbus Crew -- could get an opportunity to prove himself, as could young Seattle Sounders man DeAndre Yedlin. With Brad Evans out injured currently and Klinsmann indicating in the past that he likes Geoff Cameron more in the central defense and defensive midfield spots, those two could be fighting for one World Cup roster spot.

For Mexico, this match will be more about experimentation than winning spots on the roster. Herrera seems fairly set in his ways and convinced of who his best team includes, though he won’t get a chance to integrate any of the European-based players he plans on calling in for the World Cup for this game. It’ll be another two months before anyone has an idea of how the Mexican squad is going to come together.

Match date/time: Wednesday, 11:15 p.m. ET

Venue: University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Arizona

TV: ESPN (U.S. - English), Univision Deportes (U.S. - Spanish), TDN (Mexico)

Online: Watch ESPN (U.S. - English), UniMas (U.S. - Spanish)
