Real Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund: Lineups

Both Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are missing important players for their Champions League quarterfinal first leg.

Denis Doyle

Both Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have many first-team absentees for today's Champions League quarterfinal first leg.

The Spaniards are without their reinvented midfield star Ángel Di María as well as first-choice left-back Marcelo, meaning Isco and Fábio Coentrão are both given the nod. Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo will play either side of the attacking midfielder, with Karim Benzema spearheading the Merengues' attack.

As for Dortmund, Marcel Schmelzer's absence means young Erik Durm has the challenge of keeping Bale quiet, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starts as the lone centre-forward in the absence of the suspended Robert Lewandowski, who picked up one too many yellow cards against Zenit in the previous round.

Real Madrid starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Iker Casillas; Fábio Coentrão, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Dani Carvajal; Xabi Alonso, Luka Modrić; Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco, Gareth Bale; Karim Benzema.

Borussia Dortmund (4-2-3-1): Roman Weidenfeller; Erik Durm, Mats Hummels, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Łukasz Piszczek; Nuri Şahin, Sebastian Kehl; Marco Reus, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Kevin Großkreutz; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
