Livorno sack Domenico Di Carlo, bring back Davide Nicola

Struggling Livorno have sacked coach Domenico Di Carlo and brought back Davide Nicola in the hope of surviving relegation.

With Livorno winless in their last six and three points adrift of Serie A safety, they've taken the decision to replace coach Domenico Di Carlo with his predecessor Davide Nicola, who was sacked back in January. A statement on their website read:

A.S. Livorno Calcio officially announces the dismissal of the first team coach Domenico Di Carlo. The team thanks Mr. Di Carlo for the dedication, professionalism and dedication in the work undertaken.

The first team post has been entrusted to Davide Nicola.

Livorno are clearly getting ever more desperate, with relegation back to Serie B at the first time of asking looking ever more likely. Making matters worse is their tough run-in, with the Tuscans facing Lazio, Udinese, Fiorentina and Parma in their final four games.

If Nicola is able to keep the amaranto -- the division’s leakiest team -- in the top flight, it would be an impressive achievement. Unfortunately, it’s not looking likely.
