Bayer Leverkusen have announced that Red Bull Salzburg boss Roger Schmidt will take over from interim coach Sascha Lewandowski ahead of the forthcoming 2014-15 season. The German has signed a two-year contract to become the side's head coach, expiring in June 2016.
Roger Schmidt appointed Bayer Leverkusen head coach
Bayer Leverkusen have appointed Red Bull Salzburg’s Roger Schmidt as their new head coach.

The full-time position at the BayArena had been vacant since Sami Hyypiä was fired after a horrible run following the Bundesliga winter break. Despite Lewandowski doing a more than respectable job since taking over in the meantime, he will revert to youth team duties to make way for Schmidt next season.
Schmidt leaves Salzburg after an impressive couple of years. His Red Bull side dominated the Austrian Bundesliga this season, and are currently 24 points clear of second place with three rounds still to play. Still, there’s no doubt that the job at Leverkusen will come with rather more pressure, so it’ll be fascinating to see how the German handles the step up.
