The action at the bottom of the table heated up on Saturday, with Fulham winning to move closer to safety, but West Brom and Crystal Palace also picking up three points to remain safe...for now.
Premier League scores: Man United cruise, while West Brom and Palace edge closer to safety
The relegation race got more interesting on Saturday as Fulham made their case to get out of the drop zone.
Aston Villa 1-2 Fulham
The Aston Villa we know and some of us begrudgingly love is back.
Kieran Richardson opened the scoring in the 61st minute and, while comical defending allowed Grant Holt to equalize, Hugo Rodallega notched the winner four minutes from time to give the Cottagers hope that they might just avoid the drop (they won't).
Cardiff City 0-3 Crystal Palace
The Bluebirds and moving closer to the drop and after being thrashed by Crystal Palace to home, it’s tough to argue that they deserve to stay up. Jason Puncheon gave Palace the lead after 31 minutes and Joe Ledley added one of his own in the 71st minute before Puncheon scored his second to wrap up three points.
Hull were supposed to be a candidate for relegation, but they are now up to 36 points and likely just three points short of guaranteeing themselves another season in the top flight. George Boyd delivered them a win on this day with a 39th minute tally that fired them past Swansea, who kept the ball and rarely threatened the goal (again).
Newcastle United 0-4 Manchester United
In a match short on chances, Morgan Amaltifano's 16th minute goal stood up to provide West Brom with a valuable three points. There wasn't a lot of action at Carrow Road, which was just fine for the Baggies, who needed a win to give themselves a five-point cushion on Fulham as they try to avoid the drop.
