Newcastle United, who have lost six straight matches and seven of their last eight, are hoping for something better going into the season's final pair of matches. Despite that awful run of late, the Magpies still find themselves in the top half of the table, somehow. With their Premier League status a certainty for next season, the club have launched their new Puma away kits and will officially wear them at Anfield against Liverpool to close out the season.
Newcastle United launch new away kit, hope for silver linings on season’s final day
The new, mostly grey shirts, are accented by swathes of black and hints of blue in a nod to Newcastle's away kits of the mid-80s. The design features thin black pinstripes (made of the words "Newcastle United Football Club 1982") running down the body and sleeves with black accents around the collar, on the sleeve, and throughout the shorts.
The design was inspired by the kits worn by some of Newcastle’s most famous players, including Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle, and Paul Gascoigne.
The goalkeeper change kit was also revealed with Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul being handed a look inspired by that of his nation's. The goalkeeper will wear an all-orange kit with black accents on the shirt and shorts. Unlike the outfield away kit, the keeper will not have the pinstripes, instead opting for a bracket design emanating from the Wonga logo on the center of the chest. The design is a bit reminiscent of those RFID security tag stickers that you find on movie, music, and video game cases.
The shirt is up for pre-order from Puma immediately and will be on sale next week.
