Atletico Madrid vs. Malaga: Preview, TV schedule and how to watch online

Despite last week’s loss against Levante, Atléti still control their fate in the title race.

Gonzalo Arroyo Moreno

Winning a league title is never easy, despite what we've seen in Spain in the past years from Barcelona and Real Madrid. Some might argue it's easier for those two teams, and while they may have a point, we should all be able to agree that there are few things harder than a team other than the "big two" trying to usurp their throne.

With two weeks left to play, Atlético Madrid are still on course to do just that.

Even with their loss to Levante loss weekend, Atléti are still in control of their fate, but they've managed to shrink their margin of error a bit. A win over Málaga on Sunday, combined with a loss or draw by Barcelona would secure the title for Atléti. If Barca match, or better, Atléti's result, the title will come down to next week's showdown at the Camp Nou between the two sides.

Atléti will get a boost from the return of Juanfran from suspension, but Diego Costa’s thigh remains a concern.

Málaga are five points clear of the drop, not mathematically safe, but very close. Depending on result elsewhere, a loss could still secure their safety, but a point would likely be enough to guarantee them top flight football next season.

Atlético Madrid injuries and suspensions

In doubt: Diego Costa (thigh)

Málaga injuries and suspensions

Out: Fernando Tissone (knee)

Diego Costa’s thigh will likely be a game day decision, so Atléti fans will have to hold their breath. If their leading scorer can’t play, it’ll likely be up to David Villa or Adrián to shoulder the load up front.

Projected lineups

Atlético Madrid: Thibaut Courtois, Filipe Luis, Diego Godín, João Miranda, Juanfran, Thiago Mendes, Gabi, Koke, Arda Turan, David Villa, Diego Costa
