Real Madrid will not win La Liga. Los Merengues went into the penultimate day of the season needing a win and a Atletico Madrid loss to keep their title hopes alive, but not only did Atleti draw, Real fell 2-0 at Celta Vigo to essentially bring down the curtain on their league season.

It didn't appear as if Carlo Ancelotti really believed his side still had a chance in the league, starting only half of his regular team. That absences included Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema as Real clearly put all their focus on the Champions League final.
Despite being short-handed, Real Madrid had the bulk of possession, but they were devoid of ideas in the final third and rarely threatened the goal. When they did get forward and looks at goal, they failed to hit the frame so Celta Vigo made out without issue.
Just before halftime, the home side then went in front, but it was more about Sergio Ramos. The defender gave the ball away 25 yards from the Real Madrid goal then fell, allowing Charles to score an easy go-ahead goal.
Real Madrid poured on the pressure in the second half, but it didn’t matter. They clearly lacked the quality of their top players, failing to attack quickly and allowing Celta to pack men behind the ball. Even when they did get chances against a defensive Celta, Real Madrid finished horribly and it didn’t matter.
Finally, Celta struck again in the 63th minute. Once again it was Charles and with that goal, it was clear that Real Madrid's title hopes were done. Celta Vigo had three points and Real Madrid had a final to prepare for.
