adidas unveil warrior-inspired World Cup boot Battle Pack

With just one month to go until World Cup 2014 kickoff, you just knew that adidas were going to pull out all the stops with their collection of boot silos for the big tournament. Up until now we had only seem some subtle redesigns (the Samba Pack, which is now six months old) and some colorway changes (the Earth Pack) but this, from adidas is completely different.

The mission is to go “all in or nothing.” For adidas, the World Cup is about players giving it their all to lift the trophy. As the put it, “it’s about team work, togetherness, passion and whole nations uniting and coming together for a common cause.” The pack features a new boot from each of the four modern adidas silos in a colorway that is sure to catch the eye.

Each features a 50/50 split between black and white with the three adidas stripes doing their own thing and standing out in a fiery gold color. Messi gets his own colorway with his f50s featuring blue to mirror the colors of Argentina. adidas say that the colorway was inspired by "the warpaint of native warriors and the iconic pavement patterns of ancient Mesopotamia perfected on the Copacabana beach. The individual patterns are designed to express the attributes of each boot, as well as the attitude and abilities of the player type who wears them as they fight for victory - speed, bravery, control, energy and agility."

Speaking about the major release, Markus Baumann, Senior VP for Global Football at adidas said:

"For Battle Pack, we wanted the boots to be highly visible on pitch and stand out from the extreme range of colour everyone expects to see in Brazil. Our FIFA World Cup campaign is "all in or nothing" and this mindset is represented perfectly through the black and white colourway chosen for the boots. In addition, we wanted to pay homage to a unique Brazilian design and the powers associated with the boots and style of the players wearing them. They will help prepare our players for battle in Brazil, as they aim for glory."

“The black and white design is unlike anything I’ve seen on the field. Wearing the same collection as every other adidas athlete at the World Cup makes me part of something bigger.”
