Tottenham Hotspur have announced that manager Tim Sherwood has left the club. He was installed mid-way through the season as a replacement for the sacked André Villas-Boas, though has had his contract broken after leading them to sixth place in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that manager Tim Sherwood has departed.

Chairman Daniel Levy explained the decision in a statement on the club’s official website:
”We appointed Tim mid-season as someone who knew both the players and the Club. We agreed an 18-month contract with a break clause at the end of the season and we have now exercised that option.
“Since appointing Tim as Assistant First Team Coach in 2008 and then as Technical Co-ordinator in 2010 and Head of Football Development in 2012, we have been supportive of him during football management changes throughout that period. On behalf of the Club, I should like to state our thanks for all his efforts during his years with us. We wish him great success in his managerial career.”
The news doesn't really come as a great shock; the appointment always had the feel of a short-term solution rather than a long-term fix. Despite making some odd tactical decisions and even odder press conference comments, Sherwood overall didn't do too badly at White Hart Lane, and will now presumably have a few offers from elsewhere. Recent rumours have linked him with a move to relegated Norwich City, so he could well be on his way to Carrow Road.
The current favourite to replace Sherwood at Spurs is Southampton's Mauricio Pochettino, though Ajax's Frank de Boer, Napoli's Rafael Benítez and former Manchester United boss David Moyes are also pretty strong contenders for the post. Sadly they're probably not going to appoint the random fan to whom Sherwood offered his seat on the bench in the last match of the season.
