Yellow kits have been an important part of Liverpool's history over the last half-century. From their 1966 European kit to the glory days of the 1970s and 80s, to the club's 2001 FA Cup success, the yellow kit has seen it all. Now, for the first time since the 2006/2007 season, yellow is back in what is Warrior's best away kit effort for Liverpool by a country mile.
Liverpool relive past glories with surprisingly respectable Warrior away kit
Liverpool’s new away kit is here but kind of looks like it belongs on a hot dog.
Warrior, who have unfortunately become known for their garish away kit efforts in their time as Liverpool’s technical sponsor, have decided to take a step back and follow the formula that they used for the club’s successful home kits. Instead of trying to push the envelope, the American company has channeled history and released a red-and-yellow away kit inspired by the club’s history.
The new top is plane yellow with red piping across the chest, down the sides, on the inside of the neck, and on the sleeve cuffs. The Warrior and Liverpool logos match the red piping, as does the Standard Charter sponsor logo in the center of the chest. The shorts and socks continue the trend with the same yellow color and similar red piping throughout. The shirt features moisture-wicking War-Tech fabric and mesh paneling to help keep players cool and comfortable.
While the kit is definitely a step in the right direction, it does feel as though Warrior still could have been a bit more reserved. The piping across the chest is perhaps a bit too thick and is almost reminiscent of fast food condiments or those kits that McDonalds-sponsored football mascots wear prior to kick-off.
The kit is available for pre-order now and will go on sale in mid-June.
