Lionel Messi has signed a new contract with Barcelona, the club confirmed on Monday. While Barcelona did not release the details of the contract, multiple reports have it as a five-year deal that will keep him at the club through 2019.
Lionel Messi signs new contract with Barcelona
Barcelona have given their star another new contract.

Barcelona weren't under much pressure to sign Messi to a new deal, having recently inked him to a contract that would keep him at the Camp Nou through 2018, but when Wayne Rooney got a massive new contract, the Catalans wanted to make sure Messi also was paid to that level. Messi's previous contract paid him a reported €10.7 million annually, while this contract will double his pay, topping Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo's wages.
This new contract is Messi’s seventh at Barcelona in 11 years as the club continues to increase his pay and reward him for his performance. At 26 years old, Messi is already the club’s all-time leading scorer, has six La Liga titles, three Champions League titles and two Copa del Reys.
The next challenge for Messi is the World Cup, which Argentina is listed as one of the favorites to win, but that is separate from his work with Barcelona. His Barcelona money — a lot of it — is already in the bank and ready to collect for the next five years.
