With veteran players retiring and leaving, coaches coming and going and question marks being raised about the sustainability of their style of football, there isn't much certainty at Barcelona these days. However, defender Gerard Piqué has signed up for the long haul, extending his contract with the Catalan giants through to 2019.

Gerard Piqué has extended his contract at Barcelona through to 2019.

The 27-year-old Spanish international’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of next season, though the new deal ensures he’ll stay with his hometown club through the rest of his best footballing years.
Piqué first joined Barcelona as a youth player in 1997, before being snapped up by Manchester United in 2004. However, he was never able to settle in England, and returned to Barça four years later.
Since then he’s established himself as a crucial first-teamer, winning four league titles and two Champions Leagues in over 250 appearances. He’s now one of the team’s most experienced heads, especially after this season’s departure of his old defensive counterpart Carles Puyol. With an uncertain few years ahead, Barça will be glad to have him tied down.
