Diego Costa injury: Atlético Madrid forward substituted in the Champions League final

Once again, Diego Costa has injured his hamstring and left a game early.

Unsurprisingly, Diego Costa wasn't able to last long in the Champions League final. The Atlético Madrid forward has already been substituted, with Adrian replacing him in the 9th minute. He didn't appear to wave at the bench or look dejected. It almost seemed planned.

Costa has aggravated the same hamstring injury on multiple occasions. Most recently, he was forced to exit Atléti's title-clinching draw against Barcelona on the final day of the La Liga season. At the time, it was believed that he had little to no chance to make the Champions League final. But, miraculously, he trained on Friday and proved to Diego Simeone that he was fit enough to play.

Muscle injuries like his are tricky, though, and players regularly re-injure the same muscle if they try to come back too quickly. Hopefully Costa has learned his lesson from this and won’t attempt to play for Spain until he’s completely fit, or he could end up with a recurring problem he can’t quite beat.
