Gerard Pique extends Barcelona contract through 2019
The central defender will remain at the Camp Nou for at least another five seasons after signing a contract extension on Monday.

The club announced the deal on their website after a short signing ceremony where Piqué was joined by team president Josep Maria Bartomeu and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta. Bartomeu expressed his happiness with ensuring Piqué will remain with Barca for the foreseeable future.
“It is very important to consolidate Gerard Piqué at Barcelona. He’s the best centre back in the world ... He is a core part of the new project here at FC Barcelona”.
Piqué began his career in Barca’s youth academy, before joining Manchester United in 2004. He spent four seasons at United, before returning to the Blaugrana in 2008. Piqué struggled with injuries at times during the 2013 season, but is still one of the best defenders in the world when healthy ... and when he has an effective partner in the defense.
With Piqué under contract, the club can turn their attention to finding someone to play alongside him at the back.
