When West Ham United announced they were keeping Sam Allardyce on as manager, they made it clear they expected more entertainment. Big Sam's first signing of the summer certainly suggests he's taken note. Argentine striker Mauro Zárate has signed a three-year deal at Upton Park after an excellent season at Vélez Sarsfield in his home country; eventually finishing as top scorer in the Primera División's Torneo Final.
Mauro Zárate signs for West Ham United
West Ham said they wanted more entertainment, and Mauro Zárate sure should provide some.

Zárate has had a rather patchy career to say the least, having looked a genuine wonderkid in his first few seasons at Vélez, before short stints with Al-Sadd in Qatar and Birmingham City in the Premier League, who were relegated while the Argentine was on loan at St. Andrew’s. After earning a move to Lazio he seemed to find form again, though things quickly turned sour, and he was sent off for an unsuccessful loan stint with Inter Milan.
When he returned, he made it clear he wasn’t really interested in ever playing for Lazio again, even taking an unauthorised holiday to the Maldives before being eventually sent back to boyhood club Vélez, where he’s been ever since.
So, West Ham have clearly fulfilled their promise of entertainment with this signing, even if he’s rather inconsistent on the field. Expect him to score a couple goals and be sent off when he makes his debut, because you never quite know what you’re going to get when Zárate’s on the pitch.
