On May 30, 2006, Peter Crouch scored a a spinning, volleyed goal, but that wasn’t what made the day one for the ages, no matter how unbelievable it was. The day became a global holiday because of what followed next -- the robot dance.
Today is the 8th anniversary of Peter Crouch’s robot dance
God bless Peter Crouch.
The 6’7” Crouch, barely capable of running and kicking and doing anything that normally looks in any way athletic, somehow made himself a professional footballer and a pretty good one at that. But grace and rhythm were not his strongpoints.
And yet he thought it would be a good idea to do the robot.
Thank god he did.
In that moment, we all became more graceful. We all got more rhythm. We all became capable contestants on “So You Think You Can Dance.” And Crouch became funnier. Then just to make this the holiest day of the year, he scored another goal and did the robot again.
So today, please gather with friends, have a BBQ, drink a few beers and, while you do that, say a quick thank you to Peter Crouch, our hero who has given us this wonderful day.
