Steven Gerrard misses England training with groin injury

England captain Steven Gerrard missed England training on Monday with a groin problem, though he should still be available for their World Cup opener.

England were without their captain Steven Gerrard in training on Monday, thanks to a groin injury. According to the BBC, Gerrard only completed some shuttle runs before heading inside while the rest of the squad faced a “strenuous” workout at the Three Lions’ base.

The good news is that Gerrard's problem is apparently only a minor one, and it shouldn't be enough to rule him out of England's World Cup opener against Italy on Saturday. He managed to complete the first half of England's goalless draw against Honduras on the weekend, before being withdrawn as a precaution.

England's only other injury concern at present is winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who continues to do rehabilitation work on a knee injury he picked up in the Three Lions' friendly against Ecuador. He's still likely to miss the World Cup's early games, though coach Roy Hodgson is optimistic he'll be available further into the tournament.
