Orlando City unveils new renderings of future stadium

New MLS stadium won’t be open until 2016, but it should be pretty.

Orlando City will officially begin MLS play in 2015, but their new soccer-specific stadium won’t open until the following year. In the meantime, all we have are pretty pictures to hold us over.

But at least the pictures are pretty:

The facility will initially fit about 19,500 fans, but is expandable. It’s downtown and accessible by public transit and near the interstate. Essentially, it checks all the main boxes for MLS stadiums.

Although people seem to talking about the big lion statue that will apparently greet fans as they enter and face the field during games, the coolest feature of this stadium promises to be the roof. While roofed stadiums are nothing new in MLS, this one appears to be a bit more extreme than most of its brethren as it is designed to cover every seat and hold in noise.

On first glance, it bares a striking resemblance to the University of Washington’s Husky Stadium, which is considered one of the loudest facilities in college football.
