Official: Cesc Fàbregas signs with Chelsea

David Ramos

Chelsea have announced the signing of Cesc Fàbregas from Barcelona on a four-year deal.

The 27-year-old came through the ranks of La Masia, but moved to Arsenal at age 16. He stayed with the Gunners until 2011, when Barcelona - and Pep Guardiola - finally got their way. The club woo'd him back to Spain, but with Pep now in Germany, Fàbregas was deemed surplus to requirements.

So now it's time to see how he fares under José Mourinho. Which might be kind of fun - will Mourinho give Cesc a public telling off, as he did Eden Hazard? Or will Fàbregas manage to regain his form upon return to London?

And on behalf of all of us writing about soccer, we salute you, Chelsea. This was clearly part of a grand plan to circumvent the Financial Fair Play rules, because who’s going to notice a transfer slipping through three hours before Pitbull starts singing, and five hours before Brazil kicks off against Croatia?

Either that, or this was a way to avoid having rotten tomatoes thrown at Stamford Bridge by irate Arsenal fans.
