As the world girds itself for the start of the most important soccer tournament in history*, New York City FC did its best to stay in the headlines ... by trading for Jeb Brovsky? Yep, THAT Jeb Brovsky. The one who hadn't played for the Montreal Impact in their past two games and who was a middling defender even at his best.
New York City FC shocks world by trading for Jeb Brovsky hours before World Cup
New York City FC sure knows how to steal the spotlight...

Brovsky is the second player NYCFC has acquired, and is only slightly less notable than the signing of David Villa.
Unlike Villa, who's currently busy playing for Spain at the World Cup and will then join the newly rebranded Melbourne City FC on a short loan before NYCFC actually starts play in March 2015, how Brovsky will spend the next few months is not exactly clear.
Based on the wording of the release, it appears as if this move is effective immediately, made all the more strange because the Impact are making it sound like Brovsky was moved because he wanted more playing time. So maybe there are big plans for Brovsky. More likely, though, this will be an interesting footnote that will find its home on a Trivial Pursuit card someday.
*Oh, you’ll need to know that the Impact got a second-round pick in the 2016 SuperDraft
