After years of waiting, the World Cup finally kicked off at the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo with the host nation opening the tournament against Croatia. With the world's collective eyes on the pitch, the big brands put their wares on show. From kits to boots to goalkeeper gloves, it is all about standing out.
World Cup gear watch: Brazil v. Croatia

With only one match on the first day, there wasn’t a lot of different gear on show but as the tournament moves forward, expect to see much more.
The kits

This match saw two of the better kits in this summer's tournament with Croatia's sublime checked home shirt matching up against the classic yellow of Brazil. This was arguably the look of the World Cup in its purest form as two of the most iconic looks in world football faced off against each other.
The Boots

In completely unsurprising news, both the adidas Battle Pack and and Nike summer colorways were on show. Above was Brazil's Oscar in the adidas Predator Instinct facing off against Croatia's Luka Modric in the Nike Mercurical Superfly IV.

David Luiz is one of the faces of Nike's Magista boot. The FlyKnit boot in its launch Volt / Hyper Punch colorway was unmissable during the game. Nikica Jelavic, also picture above, was one of the outsiders in the match wearing Warrior's recently released Skreamer II boot.

Much like the Mercurial Superfly and Magista, the Nike Hypervenom was also very much on display, appearing on the feet of Darijo Srna (above) and Neymar (not pictured) among many others. Hulk was the only man on the field wearing Mizuno though as he donned his normal Morelia Neo boots. Hulk won't be the only one in Mizuno, however, with Japan's Keisuke Honda and Italy's Thiago Motta also set to wear some of the brand's boots.
