Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of David Luiz from Chelsea, the club announced. Luiz will join the back-to-back Ligue 1 champions after the World Cup, where he is playing for Brazil.

PSG paid a pretty penny for another central defender.

Neither PSG nor Chelsea released the transfer fee on the deal, but multiple reports have the deal at £40 million. That would be a record fee for a defender, topping what PSG paid for Thiago Silva and Marquinhos, and it can reportedly reach £50 million with bonuses.
That PSG shelled out such a huge sum of money for Luiz is a bit of surprise considering they were just hit by UEFA with a fine for violating Financial Fair Play, and they did it for a central defender when they already have two that they spent a ton of money on. It is possible that PSG will use Luiz as a midfielder, but they have Blaise Matuidi and Marco Verratti there.
For Chelsea, the deal is a good bit of business. They sold a 27-year-old who isn’t even first choice for a defender’s record fee and now can spend that money elsewhere.
