France ahead on a penalty; sending off means a beating is imminent

Honduras were never expected to get anything out of their match with France, so no one will be shocked by the beating they're about to receive, but Wilson Palacios really should have given his team more of a chance. Just a few minutes after narrowly avoiding a sending off for stomping on Paul Pogba, he barged the Juventus man in the back in the penalty area, leading to a spot kick, a second yellow card, and a 1-0 France lead.

This was just a really, really dumb foul.

And Karim Benzema’s finish was gorgeous.

For most of the first half, Honduras played pretty well defensively and looked like they might be capable of squeaking out a 0-0 draw. But now they trail, and their chances of scoring while down a men are basically nil. And since they’ve been put in this position by their most famous and experienced midfielder, this is pretty disappointing.
