United States Men’s National Team midfield Mix Diskerud made a bit of a surprising announcement on Twitter less than 24 hours before his country takes on World Cup rivals Ghana at Estádio das Dunas in Natal on Monday evening. The attacking midfielder has worn Nike Tiempo Legends for the last few years (and Puma v1.11s before that) but is now switching to something completely different.

The midfielder had worn the Tiempo Legends as recently as last week when the Americans took on Azerbaijan (a match that Diskerud scored the opener in), Turkey, and Nigeria in the Yanks’ send-off series of matches. However, while training for the team’s upcoming match in Natal, Diskerud was spotted in a pair of white, blue, and black Umbro Geometra II Pro boots.
Diskerud confirmed the switch on his Twitter account on the eve of the Americans’ match:
(1/2) Won't compromise anything if I shall unlock a tight defense in Brazil

— Mix Diskerud (@MixDiskerud) June 16, 2014 The Geometra II boots are not a far cry from Mix’s Tiempo Legends. Umbro’s design features a leather upper and control pads that will hopefully help him to take charge as the Americans vye to finally get past Ghana.
