Barcelona have announced the signing of Ivan Rakitić from Sevilla, for a rumoured €20 million. As part of the deal that sees the Croatian playmaker move to Barça on a five-year contract, Denis Suárez will head the other way on a two-season loan.

Rakitić‘s arrival at the Camp Nou comes after the departure of fellow midfielder Cesc Fàbregas to Chelsea.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder has spent the last three seasons playing at Sevilla, making 117 appearances with 27 goals. He began his professional career with FC Basel in 2005, playing two seasons with the Swiss club before making a €5 million move to German side Schalke 04.

Rakitić moved to Sevilla in 2010, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal, and immediately stepped into the starting lineup, becoming a regular for Los Rojiblancos. He was a key part of the Sevilla side that finished fifth in La Liga and won the club’s third Europa League title.
