Southampton have confirmed Ronald Koeman has been appointed as their new manager. The position had been vacant since Mauricio Pochettino left to join Tottenham Hotspur, though will now been filled by Koeman for at least three years. Koeman was last manager of Feyenoord, though left upon the expiry of his contract at the end of last season.

Southampton have confirmed the appointment of Ronald Koeman as their new manager.


The Saints tweeted confirmation of the appointment, and revealed Koeman’s brother Erwin has also joined as assistant manager:

— Southampton FC (@SouthamptonFC) June 16, 2014 51-year-old Koeman had an illustrious playing career at all three Dutch giants -- Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven and Ajax -- before winning the European Cup with Barcelona. Since retirement he’s taken charge of various elite clubs across Europe, and Southampton will be hoping he enjoys the same success that has seen him lift three Eredivisie crowns, as well as the Copa del Rey with Valencia.
