Defending champions Spain have been eliminated at the group stages of the 2014 World Cup. They followed up their shocking 5-1 defeat to the Netherlands with a 2-0 loss to Chile, leaving them with an insurmountable six-point deficit in Group B.

It's a stunningly early exit for Vicente del Bosque's side, who has won every single major international tournament since the 2008 European Championship. It could well signal the end of an era, with the likes of first-team stars Xavi, Andrés Iniesta and Iker Casillas all older than 30 and having disappointed in Brazil.

Spain's international team is one of the most experienced at the entire World Cup, and it may well be that bringing through a new generation -- and possibly a new style of play altogether -- will be del Bosque's biggest challenge yet. First of all, he'll just look to salvage some pride from their remaining dead rubber against Australia.
