Kaka rumored to have signed for MLS expansion team Orlando City

Orlando City don’t start MLS play until 2015, but Kaka looks set to be their first designated player.

According to ESPN's Taylor Twellman, AC Milan's Kaka will sign with MLS expansion team Orlando City SC as their first-ever designated player. Because the club does not start MLS play until 2015, he'll be loaned to Sao Paulo, whose season runs through December.

Kaka has been linked to Orlando City since they were awarded an expansion franchise, and he’s been a popular candidate to be a big-name MLS designated player signing for quite some time. Back in May, AS reported that Kaka already had a verbal agreement with the club, but the player himself said that no such deal existed.

Last September, Kaka returned to long-time club AC Milan after injuries and other signings confined him to the bench at Real Madrid. He showed flashes of brilliance for the Rossoneri, but didn't look like the player who departed for the Bernabeu back in 2009. He's still good enough to play for the club, but he's certainly not worth his current salary to Milan.

The club Kaka will reportedly be loaned to, Sao Paulo, is his boyhood club. It currently sits fourth in the Brasileirao and will be a serious contender for the title and a Copa Libertadores place. However, they may find it difficult to fit Kaka and Paulo Henrique Ganso on the same pitch.

Kaka has been capped 87 times for Brazil, scoring 29 goals, and is a former FIFA World Player of the Year winner.
