Fan at Columbus Crew match reportedly struck by lightning

The scheduled game between the Crew and FC Dallas has been cancelled after a fan was apparently struck by lightning in the stadium parking lot.

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

According to reports on Twitter, a fan was struck by lightning outside of Columbus Crew Stadium on Saturday evening. The Crew had been scheduled to play FC Dallas, as the MLS season resumes after a two-week break for the World Cup, but the match has now been cancelled.

According to Adam Aaro from the Columbus FOX affiliate, the victim is alive and in critical condition, which is relatively positive news. Hopefully the individual will be able to make a full recovery.

The incident occurred in the stadium parking lot, and not inside the stadium itself.
