Aston Villa return to claret & blue stripes for first time in 15 years with 2014/15 Macron home kit
For the first time in a decade-and-a-half, Aston Villa will wear vertical stripes on their traditional claret and blue home kits. Unlike the last time that the Villans had stripes on their shirt, Macron have gone away from the thick (and admittedly ugly) alternating color stripes in favor of a very classy blue pinstripe on a claret background.
The shirt features a frankly stunning polo collar that matches the body of the shirt but carries the club’s sky blue color forward by piping the collar’s edge and button holes with it. The opening is a slick, very sharp V with wonderfully detailed embroidery at its base for a classic look. The shirt’s sleeves are also blue for a nice contrasted look from the rest of the shirt. The shirt features a gold lion on the back of the neck while the lower back features a subtle emboss of the words “EST 1874” as a nod to the club’s founding date.
The shirt is paired with white shorts that feature claret inserts on the sides with blue piping running up the legs. The socks that accompany the shirt and shorts are absolutely incredible and arguably the best we’ve seen for the 2014/15 season thus far. They are composed of claret and blue hoops with the club’s gold lion lion located at the base of the calf.
The club will unveil their new away kit next week but for coverage of all things Aston Villa, you should absolutely check out SB Nation’s Villa site, 7500 to Holte.
