The new Barcelona head coach underwent successful emergency surgery on Monday for acute appendicitis.

Enrique took over at Barcelona on May 21st, replacing Gerardo Martino who left the club after just one season in charge. The former Barca attacking midfielder coached the Barcelona B team from 2008 to 2011, before spending a season in charge at AS Roma, and then Celta Vigo.
Barcelona return to training on July 15th as they begin preparations for the new season. The Blaugrana are expected to be busy in the transfer window as well as they attempt to address several needs on their roster.
Enrique should be back to work within a week or so, assuming their are no post-surgery complications that slow his recovery.
