According to former Bayern Munich and German international star Franz Beckenbauer, midfielder Toni Kroos has decided to leave the defending Bundesliga champion to sign with Real Madrid.

Kroos’ rumored move to Madrid has been a story for several weeks now, but neither team has commented on the potential deal. Despite the fact that Beckenbauer is currently serving a 90-day suspension from all football related activities by FIFA, it stands to reason he’s still rather connected with Bayern.

The midfielder has been with the German national team in Brazil over the past month at the World Cup, which has probably delayed the final pieces of the deal getting completed. With the tournament coming to a close this weekend, and assuming Beckenbauer’s information is correct, an official announcement could come as soon as next week.
